IT Specialist

LaBarge Weinstein has an immediate opening for an IT Support Specialist.  We are looking for someone to be responsible for the technology needs of a professional services office of approximately 50 people across 3 locations within Canada. We are looking for someone who will help users with technology problems as well as how to use technology to be as productive as possible.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing first line technical support for computer system users.  You will answer questions and solve hardware and software problems in person, via telephone or from a remote location and will liaise with other external IT support specialists to solve more specialized technology problems.  You will also ensure that the firm’s systems are adequately protected and will work with external IT specialists when needed.

Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • adding and deleting users from the firm’s technology systems and from all software applications used by the firm;
  • Set up, test and trouble-shoot hardware including workstations, printers/scanners, handheld devices, video/teleconference, telephones, cell phones and projectors;
  • set up, test, ensure proper functioning and trouble-shoot operating systems and software applications including remote access and all cloud-based applications to include vendor engagement where necessary; when required, you will be responsible for escalating issues to an external IT support firm.
  • manage the installation of new software releases, system upgrades and patches;
  • maintaining the firm’s system of back-ups using best practices;
  • managing the firm’s inventory of computer hardware and software and budgeting for annual spend;
  • managing security such as ensuring that best practice security protocols and virus applications are in place and enforced;
  • evaluating software applications that are requested by users to determine if they are acceptable;
  • training or arranging/assisting 3rd party trainers with application workshops and training seminars (‘Lunch & Learns’) to improve the knowledge and skill levels of end-users for all applications used by the firm.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

– 4-7 years of experience in an IT position;

– Ability to work independently;

– Good communication and problem-solving skills;

– Good Technical skills in the following areas:

Corporate Securities Lawyer

The Student Program at LaBarge Weinstein

LaBarge Weinstein is pleased to hire summer law students as well as articling students.

We offer our summer and articling students full exposure to virtually every aspect of our corporate and commercial practice, including securities, taxation, and licensing. Your involvement starts from the initial meeting with the client, through to completion of the engagement.

At LaBarge Weinstein, we don’t have a formal rotation system. Instead, students are given work from all areas of our practice. In addition, our open door policy and relaxed atmosphere make it easy for students to seek out work in areas that interest them.

In our Ottawa office, we follow the recruitment timelines for hiring second year summer law students and then recruit our articling students from those summer law students. Ottawa 2L recruitment generally takes place in January and February each year. In our Vancouver office, we participate in the recruitment process for second year summer students established by the Vancouver Bar Association and recruit these students as articling students. Vancouver 2L recruitment generally takes place in September each year.
