Local Business, RocketOwl, Gets B Corp Status

As a follow up to our recent blog B Corps: Redefining What it Means to Be Successful, we’re happy to report that Ottawa-based mobile and social gaming company, RocketOwl, is the first business headquartered in Ottawa to be certified as a B Corporation.

B Corps are designated by B Lab, a non-profit organization, and are required to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance and transparency. Currently, there are more than 600 Certified B Corps from 15 countries and 60 industries working together toward one goal: to redefine success in business.

According to the RocketOwl’s blog, “Becoming a Certified B Corporation solidifies the company’s mission in promoting sustainable living, environmental stewardship and social change through gaming. We’re tremendously excited to be part of a B Corp movement,” said Jasvinder Obhi, COO RocketOwl. “At RocketOwl, we care more about just a single bottom line. We think there is a better way to do business, and want the games we develop to reflect this by positively contributing to our society and our planet.”

Although RocketOwl is the first company in Ottawa to become a B Corp, according to the 2012 B Labs Annual Report, there were over 500 organizations with B Corp status in 2011, which is up from 125 in 2008.
